East Trinity United Methodist Church is a wonderful place to be at this time. There is a wonderful spirit among those who attend; it is a warm and welcoming congregation; and a spirit-filled church. Fellowship is always one of the goals of a church but, first and foremost, is the building of Christian character and informed and reformed lives. We as Christians, although of the world, are called to be different and to live differently than the social norms of the community. We are called to indeed be “disciples of Jesus Christ” living out all that this means. Of course, we are powerless to change ourselves or to alter our nature, but God is doing these things in lives all over the world and through all the ages. We also at East Trinity United Methodist Church are about changing lives. This includes our “spiritual lives” and our “daily secular lives” as they really cannot be separated. It is a joyous thing to watch as people change and begin to live, as God would have them to. What a wonderful place East Trinity United Methodist Church is at this time.
Worship on Sunday morning consists of a “blended” format combining both the traditional and the contemporary music and worship forms. We are very informal, fun loving, relaxed in our approach but no less serious about what and why we are in the Lord's house. Sunday school is for all ages, and for everyone no matter where they are on their faith walk. It's often in Sunday school where strong friendships and relationships are built. Wednesday evening programming is always very informal and inclusive of all ages of the family. Included are dinner, a praise service, children and youth activities, and choir practice.
I, as the pastor, believe it is important to build personal relationships with each person and each family. Therefore, my office door is always open and my home and cell phone numbers are readily available. I believe having a pastor who is available in those critical moments of our lives such as birth, hospitalizations, death of family members, marriage, and crisis of all kinds, is very important. I try to be available whenever I am needed.
If we can be of assistance please do not hesitate to call upon me, or a member of the church staff.
Grace and Peace,
Dennis
Biographical information:
Dr. Dennis H. Renshaw is a second career pastor. Prior to being a pastor, he was a manufacturing engineer and then in industrial sales and sales management for over twenty years. Prior to serving East Trinity United Methodist Church, he has served two churches in Chester County as pastor, and First United Methodist Church in Jackson as First Associate. He is in his sixth year year as pastor at East Trinity. Beginning in June, 2006 he also began to pastor Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church as an extended ministry.
Dennis is a strong believer that God can more easily be experienced when worship is combined with Bible study and prayer, AND service to others. This balanced approach to ministry and our Christian faith enhances our ability to see and experience God. It is a natural way to deepen our faith and improve those around us. This “love of God and love of neighbor” is what Jesus meant in his response to “Teacher, which commandment in the law is the greatest?” when he said: “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.” (New Revised Standard Version, Matthew 22:36-40)
He and his wife, Judy, have lived in Madison County for over thirty years. Judy works for the Jackson-Madison County Chamber of Commerce as Senior Vice-President of Business and Community Services. They have four grown children, and two grandchildren. Dennis' hobbies include golf and playing the tenor saxophone.
